Name: Standerton - Little Canyon Chalet Mpumalanga
Description: Little Canyon Chalet is a getaway destination par excellence and nestles high on a hill between Standerton and Vrede in Mpumalanga offering exceptional views from Mpumalanga over the Klipriver border into the Free State far below.

The beautiful and luxurious double storey thatched chalet derives it name from the fascinating erosion formations that runs down to the Klip River and surrounds, strongly resembling famous canyons like the Fish River, though on a smaller scale.

The beautifully decorated and furnished chalet proudly awaits visitors on the rim of the escarpment and offers two double bedrooms, two baths – one ensuite --, a lounge area with soft furniture and a cosy fire-place/indoors braai for the cold winter months, a loft-lounge with four three-quarter beds flowing onto a spacious sundeck that overlooks the valley far down below, a dining area with seating for eight and a fully equipped kitchen.

This is just the destination for nature lovers, who want to relax, gaze at the stars (open sky country!), hike through the canyon with all its surprises and formations or casually walk around on this 850 hectare cattle and maize farm. You will come across some wildebeest, blesbuck or rhebuck and spot beautiful birds. Drive to a dam close by for fishing or take the kids on a visit to farm chickens, horses, calves, pigs and ridgeback breeding dogs at the main farmstead.

Name: Val, Heidelberg: Waterfall Guesthouse Mpumalanga
Description: The almost unknown little hamlet of Val about 30 minutes from Heidelberg in Gauteng and only a stone’s throw from Greylingstad on the road to Standerton, is surely one of the smallest, cleanest and most beautiful little towns on the highveld. It has only 28 inhabitants and is really worth a visit. Andre and Rita bought almost the whole town on an auction in 1994, including the dilapidated old “Val Hotel”. This they restored artistically to its original state to what is today the proud Waterval Gastehuis (Waterfall Guest House) with 8 double rooms, antique period furniture and with well-known Afrikaans writers as theme in each room. The guesthouse offers a cozy private pub, large fireplaces and spacious entertaining areas for functions and weddings. The railway station building opposite the street from the guesthouse will soon be available for backpackers and Andre and Rita are restoring adjacent buildings into a curio shop and farmer’s pub. The small and beautiful thatched chapel further down the road is becoming a very popular wedding venue from where bridal pairs and their guests move to the Waterval for wedding resceptions. Val also has a post office, police station, co-op shop, grain silo’s and a sports club with facilities for squash, tennis and cricket 500 meters from the guest house.
