Tourist attractions in the area.
The Röhrs will tell you more about the "German Church Route" and don't miss out on the "German Pioneer Route": Take the R543 Wakkerstroom Road from Piet Retief. Pass the spectacular Hlangampisi Mountain and the large Heyshope Dam (passing Röhrs Farm Guesthouse), then the diminutive village of Dirkiesdorp. Start climbing the foothills of the South-eastern Mpumalanga Drakensberg, and turn off on the Lüneburg road. The road twists and winds down the escarpment through gorgeous farmland. See patches of rare indigenous forest, where the rare and valuable Yellowwood trees still grow. This is an undiscovered area of magnificently clear mountain streams, bright skies, beautiful mountains and evergreen forests on the mountain slopes. This has been an important German settlement area since the late 1800's. Explore the quaint village of Lüneburg, then turn left on the road to Piet Retief/Commondale. Take the left fork, six kilometers further, and then turn right to Commondale after five kilometers. Look carefully for the battle site of Ntombe Drift on the way. Follow the mountains to Commondale village. Turn right on the R33, and left to Commondale. The road from Commondale winds through green plantations passing Double H Game Ranch at the Honingkloof turnoff, Wagendrift Game Ranch shortly after crossing White River. Dusk to Dawn (another Farmstay facility), is on your left. Turn right at the N2 towards Pongola. A few kilometers further, turn left at Sulphursprings towards Mahamba border post. Follow the road signs to Piet Retief and see part of the Little Free State.
