Lose yourself in wholesome country air amid the sounds and scents of nature alongside a beautiful lake in the tranquil forested landscape between Amsterdam and Piet Retief in Mpumalanga.

Peter and Gerty’s Reedbuck Forest Lake Retreat hides on the edge of a lake on their beautiful farm of 1500 hectares and offers a wide variety and activities to visitors -- be it eco quad rides (bring your own), bass fishing, hunting small mouth yellow fish in the Ngwempisi River, horse outrides, hiking, mountain biking, night drives to view animals, champaign breakfasts in the veld, joining farming folk early morning to count livestock, taking a dip in the pool at the main farmstead, viewing farm animals and birds in sanctuaries in the main farm yard and learning more about forestry and other farm activities.

Accommodation at the Reedbuck Forest Lake Retreat comprises of three separate thatched facilities that can be either booked as a whole or separately. Piet's Place is the larger unit and offers a large lounge, fully equipped kitchen and two bathrooms, boma, lapa and sleeps 8 + 4 persons in 4 three quarter beds, four single beds and a couch bed. The other thatched unit has three chalets with mini kitchens and shared bathroom. A third chalet, the Stoffella Dam Chalet, is situated at another dam on the farm and sleeps 8 persons in two double and 4 single beds. All accommodation is serviced.

Activities:
Fishing Excellent bass fishing in the Retreat's lake as well as in the dam at the Stoffella Chalet and two smaller dams closeby. The Swartwaterspruit runs into the lake and becomes the Ngwempisi River with excellent fishing for small mouthed yellow fish.

Game Viewing Reedbuck roams the farm and lake area. Other small game species will be spotted on the farm

Bird Watching Excellent birding on farm, at dams and along the Ngwempisi River

Hiking Trails Casual hiking and mountain bike routes on 1500 hectares. Horseback outrides available at R50 for two hours.

Other Activities Quad bikes allowed if pre-arranged. Only eco rides guided by the managing host. All bikers must adhere to the farm's quad rules which is available on request. Jungle gym and trampoline at Piet's Place & chalets. Rowing boat available at dam.

PRE-ARRANGE FOR THE FOLLOWING: Night drives to view animals (extra); champaign breakfast, join the farming folk early morning to count livestock; take a dip in the pool at the main farmstead; view farm animals and birds in sanctuaries in the main farm yard; learn more about forestry; making of farm butter; making of "boereseep"; Wingshoots and clay pigeon shooting can be arranged. During hunting season hunts can be aranged as well as bushpig hunts all year round.

The farm is close to Manzini and Ezulwini in Swaziland.Visit the Swazi Royal Casino (120 km). The Sandlane Border Post is 25 km away -- visit a candle factoty and other attractions. Be sure te be here when the Piet Retief Rainbow Festival is held in October each year.

Jericho Dam, Wesloe Dam and Morgenstond Dam for fishing, boating & waterskiing. Visit an export mushroom farm.

Peter and Gerty owns the farm and have four children. All just love the outdoors and nature.
