This is the ideal destination for family holidays. Rest and relax on your own wooden deck, take time out on the dam for a spot of catch-and-release bass fishing, enjoy walking or mountain biking on the farm or in the surrounding forests and countryside, take a quick drive (16 km) to the quiet of Wilderness' endless, almost-deserted beaches or to the excitement and glitz of the Garden Route Mall in George. Guests have free use of bass rods and a small bass fishing boat with trawling motor. Make this your base to explore one of the most this beautiful parts of our country!

Activities:
Fishing The biggest attraction is the bass dam and the proximity to Wilderness. Guests really love the dam and some arrive as non fishermen and leave with a whole new experience of farm living. The farm is situated next to the lakes estuary In Wilderness and is a Ramsar site for bird watchers. Guests have free use of bass rods and a small bass fishing boat with electric trawling motor. Please note: all fishing on a catch-and-release basis only

Bird Watching - The Wilderness area is famous as a birding destination (in fact, the Lakes Area of Wilderness is a Ramsar Site - which makes it one of the most important birding areas in the world). At Toorbos you can expect to see woodland, grassland and freshwater birds - and raptors, of course. Please bring your binoculars and bird books along!

Hiking Trails You're also welcome to explore our 86 hectare farm - which is ideal for hiking, mountain biking and birding.

Other Activities The Garden Route is truly Nature's Garden - and Wilderness is the jewel in its crown. Stretching from about Still Bay in the west to Tsitsikamma in the east, the Garden Route encompasses the narrow coastal plain between the high Outeniqa Mountains and the warm Indian Ocean. It's a playground of indigenous forests, fynbos (Cape Macchia or Cape heath-land), crags and beaches and this has made it one of South Africa's premier tourism destinations. Happily, though, its greatest asset - its natural beauty - has been largely preserved and the area encompasses many thousands of hectares of nature reserves and national parks. But it's also a region for people, and the Garden Route boasts some of the most exciting and unusual attractions you'll find - anywhere

Farm History:

A bit about your hosts:
Braam and Marisa van Wyk bought Toorbos in 2004, after selling their farm in Levubu. With the current land reform program we decided to relocate to the Western Cape and have since started planting macadamias and avocados. Marisa’s father, Daan is currently the Manager and stay on the farm. We are still busy with our banana farming in Levubu and will relocate in 2009. The new beginning at Toorbos is both challenging and rewarding. The Dolphin estuary at Wilderness (small) and another view of deck (large)
