Alkmaar Farmstay is set in the heart of the Lowveld in the Schagen Valley on the Maputo Corridor 10 minutes from Nelspruit, the capital of Mpumalanga.

This tranquil homestead and chalet of well-travelled Johann and Wanda Sippel, is within close proximity of the Kruger National Park. It is also perfectly located for exploring the Lowveld tourist attractions like Blyde River Canyon, Pilgrim's Rest and Sudwala Caves. Alkmaar Farmstay is a birdwatcher's paradise with nesting white fronted bee-eaters, resident paradise flycatchers and long crested eagles being seen regularly.

Hiking, bass fishing and kayaking are available as well as a scenic 4X4 route. It is also the ideal stopover enroute to Mozambique.

Fishing Bass and other fish in farm dams -- Crocodile River close by.

Game Viewing Alkmaar is close to the Kruger National Park. The Kruger sustains 147 species of mammal, 112 species of reptile (including 50 of snake), 34 of amphibian, 49 of fish (including the 'living fossil' lungfish and an ocean-living shark found in one of the rivers) and nearly 230 species of butterfly. For the bird-watcher, the park has special appeal: more than 530 avian species have been identified, among them ostrich, African fish eagle, vulture, bateleur, secretary bird, owl, hawk, francolin, hornbill and korhaan. The birds of prey are especially impressive.

Bird Watching Alkmaar Farmstay is a birdwatcher's paradise with nesting white fronted bee-eaters (arms-length from the beakfast nook), resident paradise flycatchers, purple crested loerie's fish eagles, kingfishers and long crested eagles being seen regularly.

Hiking Trails Hiking trails and kayaking are available and the farm offers a scenic 4X4 route.

Other Activities Lowveld Botical Gardens -- one of the finest and most interesting botanic gardens in South Africa, set in beautiful surroundings on the Crocodile River near Nelpruit. The gardens feature a number of unique botanical collections from a Cycad garden to a tropical forest containing a comprehensive variety of fig trees.

Pre-arrange for all other meals, picnic baskets for fishing, Kruger National Park, walkabouts etc. Bush Braai in mountain (4X4 transport included) available. The two en-suite rooms are luxuriously appointed with their own entrances and mini-bars. Guests have full use of a swimming pool, safe and secure parking.

Our GARDEN COTTAGE has been recently refurbished. Tastefully decorated with beautiful linen and fabrics and all the conveniences to make ones visit more comfortable. The large bedroom has 2 x Queen size beds with en-suite bathroom and a private veranda overlooking a huge "Farm Style" garden. This cottage is always a popular choice

The VALENCIA COTTAGE with its bold rustic decor, en suite bathroom and two bedrooms is ideally suited for up to six. Each room has a queen size and single bed and all the amenities that one requires. Set in our beautiful spacious gardens, this farm style stay will certainly be memorable.
Both cottages have cooking facilities as well as a colour TV with DSTV

NELSPRUIT: The dynamic provincial capital of Mpumalanga is also the largest town in the Lowveld. As such, it is well serviced with shops, restaurants and other facilities. It is attractively positioned in the valley of the Crocodile River and has a park like setting with many flowering trees. Oranges, sub-tropical fruit and nuts are grown extensively in the area. With extremely good access to the many attractions in the Kruger National Park, other attractions of the area include the Lowveld Botanical Gardens adjacent to the Nelspruit Waterfall, Sudwala Caves with the Dinosaur park close by and Barbeton, where in the gold rush days of the last century, it is reported that a reef so rich in gold was discovered, that it sparkled in the sun. Tourist attractions in the area.
Visit the Sudwala Caves - one of the major tourist attractions in the Crocodile River Valley and only 15 km from the farm. The road between Blyde River Canyon and Pilgrim's Rest is particularly scenic and overlooks the Blyde River. Pilgrim's Rest is rich in history with an array of fascinating old style shops to explore. Kruger National Park. Near the entrance bridge of Sabie are the Bridal, Lone Creek and Horseshoe Falls.

Wanda is a retired teacher (tourism and physical education). She (and her daughter Huibrie) holds SA colours in under water hockey. Johann is a farmer, 4X4 (Landrover)instructor and scuba diving instructor. He specializes in 4X4 excursions to Mozambique. Their parents, Duncan and Marietjie Sippel, also live on the farm. Duncan is a radiologist. Johann and Wanda are your hosts (small pic) and the guest lounge with fireplace (large pic)
